Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about roller shade fabric replacement, fabric options, local NYC service, nationwide ordering, measuring, shipping, and installation.

General Questions

In most cases, only the fabric needs to be replaced. If your existing roller tube, brackets, clutch, chain mechanism, or motor are still working properly, replacing the fabric can give the shade a completely refreshed appearance without replacing the entire system.

We work with blackout, solar screen, privacy, light-filtering, solar reflective, flame retardant fabrics. Standard in-stock options provide the fastest turnaround, while additional colors, textures, and specialty materials are available through our supplier catalogs.

Pricing depends on the shade width, height, fabric type, and whether the project is local or being shipped nationwide. Standard fabrics can be priced using our online calculators. Specialty or catalog fabrics require a custom quote because supplier pricing and minimum-order requirements vary.

Blackout fabric blocks light and outside visibility. Solar screen fabric reduces glare and heat while preserving varying degrees of outward visibility depending on the openness factor. Privacy fabric allows natural daylight through while limiting direct visibility through the shade.

Fabrics & Special Orders

Our standard Nationwide online ordering options currently focus on white fabrics, including the blackout, privacy, and solar screen materials shown in our calculator.

For local projects, additional colors, textures, and specialty fabrics can be selected from our supplier catalogs.

Yes. The online calculator is intended for our standard fabric options. If you need a specific color, texture, manufacturer, or specialty collection, contact us with the fabric name or desired specifications and we can prepare a custom quote.

Yes. Many specialty and catalog fabrics require a minimum purchase of 5 linear yards per fabric and color.

Five linear yards equals 180 inches of material along the roll. If your project requires less material, the supplier’s 5-yard minimum may still apply because that is the minimum quantity we must purchase.

Multiple shades using the same fabric and color can be combined toward the minimum. The number of shades that can be produced from 5 yards depends on the shade dimensions and the width of the fabric roll, so please contact us for a project-specific calculation.

For a single small shade, the material actually used may be much less than the supplier’s required minimum. However, we may still need to purchase the full 5-yard minimum.

For projects with several shades using the same material and color, the minimum can often be distributed across the entire project, making the cost per shade more economical.

We have supplier catalogs with additional colors, textures, opacity levels, and specialty materials. Availability, pricing, and lead times vary depending on the selected fabric.

Local NYC Fabric Replacement

You can bring the complete roller shade, the roller tube with the existing fabric attached, or the fabric itself, depending on the project.

The wall or ceiling brackets normally remain installed at your location because our service focuses on replacing the fabric rather than replacing the mounting hardware.

For standard fabrics currently in stock, typical turnaround is approximately 2–3 business days after we receive the shade or roller tube.

Special-order materials may require additional time depending on supplier availability.

We are located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard area of Brooklyn, NY with on-site parking available.

Visits are by appointment so we can make sure someone is available to inspect your shade, review fabric options, and confirm the project details.

Yes. Pickup and delivery can be added for local projects. Pricing depends on the number of shades and project requirements.

Yes. We handle residential and commercial roller shade fabric replacement, including multi-shade projects for offices, property managers, buildings, and other commercial spaces.

We specialize in roller-style shades and do not service slatted window coverings such as Venetian or vertical blinds.

Yes. If the motor, tube, and hardware are operating correctly, they can remain in service while the old fabric is removed and the new fabric is installed.

Yes, in many cases. If you want your existing hem bar re-wrapped with the new fabric, re-wrapping is an additional service beyond the calculator price. Some wrapped hem bars require specific round or flat spline, profiles, or tools that we may not support, so re-wrapping is not possible on every system.

If the existing aluminum hem bar can be removed from its original wrap, we can often insert that same hem bar into our welded bottom hem pocket instead. There is no additional charge for using your existing hem bar this way. The result provides a similar finished look, and the best option can be reviewed with you at the shop.

Nationwide Ordering & Shipping

Yes. We custom-cut replacement fabric in Brooklyn and ship throughout the continental United States.

The fabric is rolled, never folded, around a protective cardboard core and placed inside a heavy-duty shipping tube. Aluminum hem bars are packed separately.

Slight waves or curvature can sometimes appear after the fabric has been rolled and packed for shipping. After installation, the fabric typically relaxes and flattens over time as the shade hangs and is operated normally.

Measuring Before Ordering

Measure the aluminum roller tube only, from metal edge to metal edge. Do not measure: bracket to bracket, wall to wall, motor head, pin end or idler, end plugs, end caps, other hardware attached to the tube. The width entered in the calculator is used to manufacture the fabric, so including hardware can result in an incorrect fit.

Enter the finished height you want the shade fabric to cover.

Our calculator automatically adds the additional material required for wrapping around the roller tube, so you should enter the actual finished shade height rather than adding extra material yourself.

We recommend a standard Imperial tape measure marked in inches and fractions, such as: 1/8″ 1/4″ 3/8″ 1/2″ 5/8″ 3/4″ 7/8″

Select the matching fraction in the calculator when entering your dimensions.

Installation & Compatibility

Yes. Nationwide orders are prepared for DIY installation.

You will remove the existing material from your roller tube, clean the mounting surface, apply the supplied installation tape, attach the new fabric, and slide the aluminum hem bar into the welded bottom pocket.

Detailed installation instructions are included, and additional installation guidance is available on our website.

Yes. That is the purpose of our replacement service. The new material is designed to be installed on your existing compatible roller tube rather than replacing the complete shade system.

Yes, provided they are in good working condition and compatible with the replacement fabric.

The motor, brackets, tube, and controls normally remain part of the existing system.

Our replacement fabrics can be used with many common roller shade systems. We regularly work with systems and components from major industry manufacturers.

Brand names shown on our website are referenced for compatibility and identification purposes.

Our primary specialty is replacing fabric on existing roller shade systems.

For local customers who need an additional complete roller shade as part of a larger project, complete shades may also be available by request.
